WHAT THIS IS ANYWAY! Time for something different, also because I'm really proud of this one. This is an illustration that'll be coming out in the newspaper I work for, the Philippine Daily Inquirer. The story's about the proposed bailout the US government is preparing in light of the recent crises. I also wanted to illustrate how the US economy, and generally the world economy, is becoming harder and harder to hold up amidst rising prices and dropping currencies. So using the traditional image of Atlas holding up the earth I ran with it and replaced it with a wall street banker, or some similar individual.
HOW IT WAS MADE Went with hard core line work here because I wanted it to give the feel of an "old-school" newspaper drawing, which I haven't really tried until now. That and because I'm mesmerized by how Kevin O'Neill does his work on League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
I'll post a copy of the actual page's .pdf once I grab it at work, it looks really nice.
WHAT I USED The media I used here are traditional pen, ink, and pencil. Which I haven't used in a long time as well since my foray into straight-to-digital. God I love doing it again!
Oh, and silly me. I forgot this isn't 100% traditional - the globe I did digitally, as I couldn't find a circular object big enough to draw on the paper I drew on. I also used a stock reference image of the earth for the continents, to make it look like the real earth, and not some ball with random continents on it.
Also you can hit the Download button if you're into seeing the lines in maximum detail, if you're into that

That would be about as interesting as a sci-fi movie directed by a physicist.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
